The Lyon County offices will be opening on May 21st, 2020 however due to the continued health concerns raised by the COVID-19 virus the Lyon County Government Center and Public Works building will be conducting business by appointment only.

    Appointment for Drivers License and Identification Cards

    Due to the continued health concerns raised by the COVID-19 virus the Lyon County Government Center will be conducting business by appointment only.  We ask that you wear a face mask when doing business in the Lyon County offices. 

    • Restrictions for appointments:
      • Your license must be past due or be scheduled to expire within one month of the appointment date, unless you are changing name or address.
      • You must live or work in Lyon County.  If your address is in a different county but you are employed in Lyon County, you will be asked to provide proof of employment (ID badge, etc.).
    • When you arrive for your appointment, you will be asked a series of health-screening questions:
      • Have you been in close and prolonged physical contact (within less than 6 feet for at least 10 minutes) with an individual who has tested positive for or been diagnosed with COVID-19, or exposed to their cough or sneeze, within the last 14 calendar days; or have you tested positive for or been diagnosed with COVID-19 within the last 14 calendar days?
      • Have you had a fever or felt feverish in the past 72 hours? 
      • Have you taken any fever-reducing medication to reduce a fever in the past 72 hours? 
      • Have you had cough, shortness of breath, or any other symptoms of COVID-19 (muscle aches, headache, sore throat, diarrhea, or loss of taste or smell) within the last 72 hours? 

If you answer “yes” to any of the health screening questions or refuse to answer the questions, you will not be allowed to keep the scheduled appointment.  Please contact the Auditor/Treasurer's office if you have any questions at 507-537-6727.

 DRIVER’S LICENSE

The Minnesota House and Senate passed a bill on March 26 to provide coronavirus relief funding.  The bill also extends the expiration date for all valid Minnesota drivers’ licenses set to expire during Minnesota’s peacetime public health emergency until at least 60 days after the period is ended by Gov. Walz.

The Lyon County driver's license office is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Services are available by appointment only.

Cash, check or credit card (2.5% convenience fee) are accepted.

NOTICE: Every air traveler 18 years of age or older will need a REAL ID, enhanced driver’s license or ID, passport or passport card or another acceptable form of ID to fly within the United States or enter federal facilities beginning Oct. 1, 2020. A standard Minnesota driver’s license will not be accepted for federal use as of that date, but it will still be a valid form of identification and valid for lawful driving privileges.
