TWIN LAKES PARK
Twin Lakes Park is located at 1097 Road 51, Ruthton, MN 56170 in Shelburne Township, Lyon County, Minnesota. The park opened in 2016 and it is nestled between East Twin and West Twin Lakes. From Florence, MN drive south on HWY 23 to Lyon County Road 51 and turn south for 2 miles. County Road 51 passes through Twin Lakes Park.
Twin Lakes Park offers 2 campgrounds. No seasonal sites are offered. All sites are first-come first-serve. A camping registration pay tube is located in each of the campgrounds. A brief overview of the park follows:
North Campground- The North Campground offers 15 electrical sites (1-15, with site #15 being the host site). There is a dump station, shower facility, flush toilets, picnic shelter, Nature scape playground and campground playground as well.
South Campground- The South Campground offers 14 electrical sites (15-29). There are flush toilets.

As per its namesake Twin Lakes Park has plenty of fishing in all seasons! West Twin is restricted to ELECTRIC MOTORS ONLY but will have a new boat access in 2020. East Twin water levels are now under control as a temporary drawdown structure was installed in 2019.The boat landing is usable. Both lakes also have prime ice fishing.
Two campsites are available at Twin Lakes Park, and 2 picnic shelters provide day use and large gatherings. The park staff will be installing Natural Landscape playground features in 2020, and in close proximity on West Twin Lake is planned an up-shore beach area with access to the water.
A newly replanted native prairie area will be managed for outdoor education. Fully development of this site should be complete in June of 2021.
This location at one time was the site of school district 57 which opened in 1895 and closed in 1947. Rural students including some from large farm families, traveled up to several miles each day for classes. The school consolidated with Ruthton School District , and was later moved to Ruthton, Minnesota, where it was later used as a Masonic Hall.
The site was a small park before Lyon County purchased the property for the beautiful park it is today. Twin Lakes Park is newly created park set between East and West Twin Lake. It is located in the southwestern corner of Lyon County in Shelburne Township, south of Florence.
The Park is made up of 61.8 acres, 21.8 of which are developed. Construction of the park began in 2014 and the grand opening in the Spring of 2016.Phase II development including an additional campground is scheduled to open in 2020.
